Mission Against
Human Trafficking

MARY WARD LORETO is planting hope with a human rights approach to combating modern day slavery. This challenging mission is implemented through works of justice, education, grass roots action and systemic change.
The aim is to eradicate poverty, the prime cause for human trafficking.

Seven years ago, a two year old girl, rejected by her father since she was born, was abandoned by her mother at the house of her mother’s sister. The promise of the young mother to come back as soon as possible and reunite with her daughter has never been kept. There have been no visits, no phone calls, and no news about the young mother and father, apart from some rumors that the young mother was in prison somewhere in Europe. In the first years of her life, the little girl used to call her aunt and uncle, mother and father. After growing older and understanding more, she stopped. She was raised and taken care of by her aunt and family for seven years.

She continues to live with them in a village near Fier without knowing her parents and without having any legal support or help from them. This case was referred to MWL Centre in Fier and was supported with related information about following the procedures for the kinship foster care system. MWL, in collaboration with Tirana Legal Aid Society –TLAS an NGO who offers  free legal help for people in need, introduced the case to the Court of Fier for kinship foster care .

There is much hope while waiting for the final Court decision. MWL is doing everything in their power to be sure that this nine year old  girl will be legally and economically protected for a better future.
