Leadership Program – A Day Full Of Positive Energy.

On June 14th, the MWL Youth Leadership Group organized a socializing activity; one day out in the Apollonia Archaeological Park in Fier. The youngsters visited the archaeological sites of Apollonia, the old Church, and the Apollonia Museum. They learned a lot about the park, its history, and were amazed by the objects displayed in the museum that were found in the park.

After the visit to the park, we headed to another activity in Lushnje. This time, their meeting was with another young group who are active in the Lushnje Youth Council. This meeting was made possible in cooperation with Peace Corps in Lushnje.

In this meeting, the youth of the MWL Leadership Program gave an awareness raising session on Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery. They were the ones who moderated from beginning to end and led the group in conversation about the topic.

This was their first experience with another group of young people who are activists and leaders in their community. They were very responsive and very comfortable with their peers, spending 2 hours together.

November 2016, marked the beginning of a new, exciting pilot programme, integrated within the Youth Project. In the Youth Need’s Research conducted by MWL Youth, it emphasized the lack of intellectual space for youngsters to grow their potential and become aware of it. By this programme, MWL aims to succeed in offering this missing opportunity, especially to those in need, who do not have means or access to receive the knowledge, information, etc. Becoming aware of that “leader spirit” within themselves, that could drive this marginalized youth towards small and big changes in their community, would be one of the results of this programme. The second and final stage of implementation consists in building Youth Centers, led by the youth itself.

MWL Youth began the programme with the youth of “Lagje Mirdita”, peripheral rural area of Durres. Starting from November 2016, 15 boys and girls were identified (based on their intellectual skills) as beneficiaries. They were picked from two different sites – both very vulnerable, poor and marginalized. The identification process was led by the Youth Manager in collaboration with MWL local partner- priest of the church in Lagje Mirdita. (For further information please read the MWL Youth reports.)

Entertaining children in street situation – A social action from Leadership Group.

On 16th of February 2018 , 7 participants in the Leadership Program from Lagje Miredita, hosted an energizer session with around 30 children living on the streets who frequent the Little Angels a community centre managed by the NGO Shkej. The group was coordinated by the MWL Coordinators, Artemisa Aliaj and Zana Guri.

This was a wonderful afternoon for each of budding youth leaders. They had so much fun and shared many experiences. Youngsters from Lagje Miredita were committed during the week to collecting cloths for the little ones in their community. These clothes were delivered to the Little Angel Ngo for children.

The energizing session really entertained the children and the youngsters from Lagje Miredita enjoyed every one of the exercises. What a pleasure to be there!
