Human Trafficking

MARY WARD LORETO is planting hope with a human rights approach to combating modern day slavery. This challenging mission is implemented through works of justice, education, grass roots action and systemic change.
The aim is to eradicate poverty, the prime cause for human trafficking.

The MWL Advice and Service centres in 6 areas of Albania continue to provide the following activities:

  • Advice and Referral to necessary service providers and authorities
  • Direct Services
  • Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Legal Aid
  • Capacity Building for stakeholders

The MWL Advice and Service centres in 4 areas of Albania continue to provide the following activities:

  • Advice and Referral ( to necessary service providers and authorities)
    • Issues presented by clients (require advice, discernment of next steps, and referral to the competent authorities and processes. Domestic violence, human trafficking, unemployment, and homelessness are only a few of the presenting issues. MWL Social Workers and Psychologists help clients navigate the legal procedures to seek and access the help they need.)
  • Direct Services
    • Facilitation for employment and self-employment, shelter and housing solutions, health support including training, clinical intervention, diagnostics and medication where needed.
  • Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • MWL programmes in all the regions where the centres are situated, offers free counselling and therapy for potential victims and victims of trafficking to deal with trauma and to develop healthy coping mechanisms.
  • Online Counselling developed with survivors sheltered in the UK.
  • Psychological assessment will be provided for cases referred by other institutions that do not have the necessary expertise. MWL ASC will provide psychological assessments if this is needed during the investigation in court or elsewhere; given the victim’s request and consent.

  • Legal aid and support for returning migrants, potential victims and victims Capacity Building for Social Services departments
