Albania Mission Against
Human Trafficking

Women's Project harvesting beans in Kallmet

MARY WARD LORETO is planting hope with a human rights approach to combating modern day slavery. This challenging mission is implemented through works of justice, education, grass roots action and systemic change. The aim is to eradicate poverty, the prime cause for human trafficking.

It was with great joy in the first month of 2014 that Mary Ward Loreto was able to sign the renewed contract with the Roma project which is funded through MWL.  The project has been going for some years now and this month it aimed at reaching its target of empowering 50 children.  Little Angels continues to support the education of the children most of whom now attend the public school but who have little provision at home to do the follow up homework which will help them to flourish well in the public system. The staff are totally dedicated to this work and also use play as a methodology for helping the children grow in self esteem and confidence.  It is wonderful that now one of the Roma young people is helping with peer teaching at the centre.  The children continue to be fed twice a day, a doctor serves their medical needs as also those of the families of the children.  Two outreach social workers support the families in three scattered camps where the families of the Roma children live.
